Steve Jobs email regarding MobileMe
August 6, 2008Team,
The launch of MobileMe was not our finest hour. There are several things we could have done better:
– MobileMe was simply not up to Apple’s standards – it clearly needed more time and testing.
– Rather than launch MobileMe as a monolithic service, we could have launched over-the-air syncing with iPhone to begin with, followed by the web applications one by one – Mail first, followed 30 days later (if things went well with Mail) by Calendar, then 30 days later by Contacts.
– It was a mistake to launch MobileMe at the same time as iPhone 3G, iPhone 2.0 software and the App Store. We all had more than enough to do, and MobileMe could have been delayed without consequence.
We are taking many steps to learn from this experience so that we can grow MobileMe into a service that our customers will love. One step that I can share with you today is that the MobileMe team will now report to Eddy Cue, who will lead all of our internet services – iTunes, the App Store and, starting today, MobileMe. Eddy’s new title will be Vice President, Internet Services and he will now report directly to me.
The MobileMe launch clearly demonstrates that we have more to learn about Internet services. And learn we will. The vision of MobileMe is both exciting and ambitious, and we will press on to make it a service we are all proud of by the end of this year.

iPhone 2.0.1 Available now in iTunes
August 5, 2008For all of you who are a little upset with the random resetting of the iPhone, as well as many crashes, give the new 2.0.1 Firmware a try. I’m downloading it right now, and hopefully it solves the issues I’ve been having.
I do believe the issue was with application that utilize the location services. When trying to launch them, they would cause the iPhone to reset…but not all the time, so it was quite frustrating.
Update: Pwnage Tool 2.0.1 does not yet work with the new 2.0.1 Firmware. Be patient and watch the iPhone Dev Teams Blog
Long Backup Times with 2.0 Firmware
July 31, 2008Open up the Terminal and type:
defaults write com.apple.itunes DeviceBackupsDisabled -bool YES
Your iPhone will no longer do a Backup when connected. To allow backups again type:
defaults write com.apple.itunes DeviceBackupsDisabled -bool NO
Creating a wireless network for iPhone connection…
July 30, 2008…without a Router.
Some iPhone 2.0 applications require your iPhone to be connected to the same wireless router as your Mac to sync data (1Password, Remote, File Magnet). The following link is to the MacOSXHints site to an artilcle describing how to setup you Mac as a wireless router for your iPhone to connect to. You can’t use this to connect via WiFi and use the internet, and the WiFi symbol will not appear at the top of your iPhone. It will however connect and allow wireless syncing for Applications that need it. Very Cool

iPhone 2.0 Firmware problems
July 26, 2008Not sure how many people out there are having this problem, and it may be because I have quite a few apps on my iPhone, but I keep getting these random restarts. I’ll close on application and go to open another then BOOM, I’m waiting for a restart, and it’s a LONG restart. I’m not really sure what to do, try a full restore or what? Anyways, I’m really enjoying my 2.0 aside from this little problem. Maybe 2.01 or 2.1 (whichever they call it) will be more stable for me. I’ll just have to wait and see.
I’ve done a search for this problem and haven’t come up with much.
Amazing iPhone App
July 24, 2008I just downloaded an application from the App Store called Locly, and it works great! Even in Canada.
Application Description:
Find nearby attractions, cafes and shops. Look at local photos from Flickr, and pull up Twitter entries that are close to where you are now. You can configure Locly to only show what you’re interested in, and the sources of local information is continually growing.
You need an iPhone with 2.0 Software.
iPhone 2.0 Firmware taking forever to Backup
July 24, 2008“Backing up your iPhone”
Do you get that message every time you sync your iPhone? Well there is a reason. I found this on one of the Apple discussion boards and I’d thought I’d post it here as it seems to answer the question quite nicely.
“Before it just had to sync content and back up a few settings. But now it wants to back up all your apps that you installed and with each app, they all have their own settings or databases. So the more apps you put on, the longer it is going to take. Also note, it will only backup if you accessed an app. So lets say you sync. Then never touch any of your apps and sync again. It won’t back them up. But if you open lets say Shazam, it will then have to back it up and all it’s data (which can include ablumb art, photos you added to that app, etc).”
